Workshop Topics on Addiction Prevention

- Addiction is a Family Disease – Participants prepare and present their own Genograms. Participants receive booklet. Two 3-hr sessions.
- Addiction, Family Issues, Recovery and Healing – Special 3-hr training for clergy with manual. Clergy keep manual and pamphlets.
- Boundaries – Setting boundaries is crucial for self-care, and to provide the highest probability of success for our loved ones in recovery, or loved ones with addiction to seek treatment. 2 hours.
- Congregational Awareness and Empowerment or How Addiction Affects Members of your Congregation – Basic 6-hr workshop that can be facilitated in two 3-hr sessions. Trainer presentations and panel discussion.
- Coping after Overdose Death – 4-hr trainer presentation with participant activities and handouts.
Enabling 101 – What is Enabling? What has Enabling got to do with addiction and recovery? Who is susceptible? 1.5 hrs. - Facilitation 101 – Facilitators are made, not born! How many of us participated in meetings led by poor facilitators? Learn the skills and tools that make an effective facilitator who creates excitement from its members and their desire to return for more! Learn practical hands-on training. 3 hrs.
- Healing Hope for Bruised Souls – An in-depth 8-hr workshop (in two segments) for Stephen and Care ministers with a teaching manual that covers addition and mental health issues, assessment tools, and describing the healing process. Participants keep manual. Pastoral care situations discussed.
- Heroin Epidemic: In Your Community, In your Congregation, Hope and Help
6-hr workshop that can be divided into two 3-hr sessions. Trainer presentations and panel discussion.
Interventions – An 8-hr workshop divided into 2 sessions. - Is Addiction a Disease? A clinician explains the spiritual, psychological, brain chemistry and relational aspects of addiction. 3 hours.
- Language of Addiction – how we communicate with our loved ones in recovery can hurt to hinder their recovery process. Learn tools to support individuals in recovery. 2 hours
- Mentoring Issues – A 3-hr guided discussion on how to help and how not to help, with a special emphasis on enabling.
- Now what do we do? Crisis Intervention and Referral Management. When starting addiction and recovery ministries, it is highly likely to get calls from individuals experiencing crises. How do we communicate? Tips and sharing on best practices. 3 hours.
- Opioid Dependency: Reviving and Caring – 2-hr trainer presentation and demonstration of administering Narcan. Participants receive a kit, Narcan, and Resource booklet.
- Recruiting for Ministry 101 – How do we recruit for important ministries? How to inspire people who normally do not volunteer for ministry work? 2-3 hours.
- Risk and Protective Factors – Parents can mitigate children from having Substance Use Disorders (SUD) by increasing protective factors and decreasing the risk factors. Participants will gain practical tips to they can apply immediately. 2 hrs.
- ROSC Recovery Oriented Systems of Care Training and Booster Workshop – A 6-hr workshop with trainer presentation and participant activities.
- Signs and Symptoms of Addiction – A 6-hr workshop led by a physician on the science of Addiction.
Support Groups: Kinds and Effectiveness – A 6-hr practicum, with explanation and practice in different kinds of support groups. - The 12-steps – A 3-hr presentation and what they are, how they work, and their origins.
- The Heart of Addiction – A 3-hr workshop with a testimony and panel discussion.
- Whole Person of Addiction – What is it to be human? Are we merely physical with emotions or is there something deeper? What does it mean to embrace the physical, emotional, spiritual person? How does our psychology impact our physical wellness? 2-3 hours.
