In this interactive, “conversational” workshop, Scott and Emily will share their jagged recovery paths, reactions from parents and loved ones, and their own attitudes towards addiction, recovery, faith, religion and family. You will gain a better understanding of how addiction hijacks brain functioning, the addicted loved ones’ struggles, experiences, and common behaviors in families and friends that help or hurt the recovery process. Importantly, you will gain a better understanding of how hope and science interact to aid recovery.
As a result of this workshop, participants will …
- be able to describe the biological, medical aspect of addiction;
- gain tips on how to communicate to aid recovery and help prevent addiction;
- dispel myths and gain helpful facts on addiction and recovery; and
- be able to describe why recovery is a process.
