Description: Explore current drug trends regarding; alcohol, nicotine / tobacco, and marijuana (cannabis), their addiction potential, purity, perceived level of harm regarding these substances. Discussions will include factors related to substance experimentation, use and abuse across the adolescent and transition ages. Discussions will provide attendees with information on how drugs can impact the developing adolescent brain between the ages of 12 and 21.

Learning objectives include:

1. After attending this training, participants will be able to identify the three main factors related to current trends in substance use.

2. After attending this training, participants will be able to identify how the marijuana and nicotine have changed from previous generations
3. After attending this training participants will be able to identify how neurotransmitters are involved with the drugs discussed and how age of exposure impacts outcomes regarding experimentation, use, abuse, and dependence.
4. After attending this training, participants will be able to identify how low perceived level of harm of a substance by a population result in a reported high level of use of the substance amongst same population.
